We have been following all of the recent news surrounding the recall of airbags made by Takata with growing concern. Concern, because of the potential injury that can be inflicted on occupants as well as the tremendous number of vehicles that this recall will ultimately affect. It came with some relief when we found that none of our families’ vehicles were subject to this problem. However, we felt like this issue is important enough to try and get the word out to everyone to see if they own a vehicle that may contain one of these potentially dangerous airbags. Most car makers have sent notices to owners informing them of the recall, but since some of the affected cars can be upwards of 13 years old, traceability of second and even third hand ownership may be non-existent. For your own piece of mind, take a few minutes to find out if any of your families’ cars might be part of this recall:
This website has an easy to use search tool using your car’s VIN as well as documenting all of the affected vehicles in a list that is updated periodically. NHTSA should also be able to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
